7 Quick Takes gets an upgrade!

September 29, 2011 | Uncategorized | 19 comments

This week marks the three-year anniversary of 7 Quick Takes! The first time I wrote a post in the “quick takes” format I was just looking for a way to share a few informal thoughts that didn’t warrant entire posts to themselves. Three years and 144 Quick Takes posts later, it’s still one of my favorite blog post formats. I especially love it now that others have joined in, and we can all read one another’s posts each week.

To celebrate, I thought I’d give our little Friday carnival an upgrade! Starting tomorrow, you’ll notice the following changes:

  • I upgraded the linky list to get one that includes an image from your post, and (hopefully) will be easier to use. This should help increase the number of clicks you get to your Quick Takes posts, so that you can gain new readers to your site.
  • I’ve created a 7 Quick Takes post template that you can find here. Having a template really helps me create my posts quickly, so I thought it might be helpful to others as well. (Though you don’t have to use it — totally optional).
  • I finally have a box with the image code for the 7 Quick Takes logo so that you can easily copy and paste it into your posts if you’d like to. You can find that at the bottom of this page. (Though you don’t need it if you use the post template; it’s already included in there.)
I hope you find these changes helpful. Happy three-year anniversary to all the bloggers and readers who have joined in over the years!

Yay! This may sound a little lame but I always look forward to Friday so I can read Quick Takes and write my own. So excited to use the new template!

I’m eternally grateful for your 7 Quick Takes habit! A faithful follower of your blog who is a dear brother in Christ to my husband and me told me about your blog awhile ago and suggested I also do 7 Quick Takes. Tomorrow will only mark my 18th edition, but that’s very exciting that your quick post tradition has turned into such a huge hit! It’s been a super-fun way to celebrate Fridays, find some awesome new bloggers to read, and get in a bunch more laughter. Thanks for sharing, linking, and making us laugh! God bless!

The template is wonderful! I’ve definitely though a few times how I should create some kind of draft or template to make writing quick takes faster, but I never knew how to do it! Thanks!

I tried the code, but it results in the 7 Quick Takes image not being centered at the top of the page (even though, when I click on the image to move it, Blogger says that it is in the center). What am I doing wrong?

You mean the button code? Hmm…I’m not sure. I just tried it on my Blogger account and it was centered for me. In the HTML, maybe look and see if there is anything around it with a “text-align” property set to something other than “center.” Weird.

Very nice. Way to be an innovator.

You are awsome! I’ve only posted one quick takes friday, and I’ve always wanted to post more…this will definately help me out.
