A monthly roundup

  • April 14: George Weigel is coming to Austin to speak at the diocesan Pro-Life Benefit Gala. I’m not sure if I can make it, but it’ll definitely be a great event.
  • April 19: I’ll be on the EWTN show Life on the Rock, which will air at 9:00 PM CST.

  • A Catholic mom named Ann has an Etsy shop where she sells beautiful First Communion Veils.
  • Laura Dominick, who blogs at Homeschooling with Joy, is a veteran homeschooler with seven children, and she shares her secrets for making it all work in a book called A Plan for Joy in the Home. I really like it. It has worksheets and checklists and samples schedules and all sorts of stuff that will help you successfully manage the chaos that can come with homeschooling lots of children.
  • Looking for another good charity to support? How about free wheelchairs for the poor? (I discovered it via this L.A. Times article about the founder. Interesting guy: He has his doctorate from MIT, and founded this charity after a family crisis led him back to his Christian faith.)
  • For those of you who do the St. Louis de Montfort consecration to Jesus, there is now an entire website to support you in your consecration journey.

Thanks especially for the convert post at the Register-

I’ve facebooked and tweated it a few times—it’s VERY important

  2. Laura

Thanks for the wonderful review, Jen! I am so glad you like my book! It is so exciting to see this on your blog 🙂 Have a blessed Holy Week and Easter!

There is another website supporting the St. Louis de Montefort consecration geared toward young adults: marianfaithnetwork.com. It’s great!

Have a wonderful Holy Week and a happy Easter!

I started following your writing when you were only doing NCR and 7 Quick Takes on Fridays. I’m excited to see more of your writing.

Speaking of which, I bought The Book and I have to confess that I misjudged you. I thought you were 100% put-together, all-the-time, just-kidding-about-not-being-a-perfect-homeschooling-parent-so-the-regular-folks-don’t-feel-so-bad-about-themselves sort of Catholic wonder woman. And now I feel better because you have fallen out of the window of a minivan. 🙂 In all seriousness, lovely essay. I have always been frustrated by the way the culture embraces vice as though it were the same thing as personality.

Thanks for the kind words, Mighty. Nice to “meet” you!

Jen, thanks for the link to the consecration website. Two good books are “33 Days to Morning Glory” by Fr. Michael Gaitley and “The Echo of God” by Fr. Lance Harlow. He has a website by the same name, and also a very good talk that can be found at Lighthouse Catholic Media.
    Have a blessed Easter

  6. Joy

Thanks, Jen, for the links! I really love your article on “The Secret Lives…” the difference of having a life of joy. Definitely checking out the book by Laura Dominick! Sounds great!

  7. Ann Thelen
